1 Corinthians 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

Think upon the wonderful privileges which these Old Testament saints did partake. They ate spiritual meat and drink. Let us notice the source of that drink. They drank from the Rock. This was not a dead rock that lay in one place. This Rock was Christ. Jesus Christ is the living stone. 1 Peter 2:4 To whom coming, [as unto] a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, [and] precious,

This Rock not only provided for their need but He also was present with the people. Who has heard such a thing, a rock following? This Rock, clearly identified, Jesus Christ, followed His people.

That Rock provides Salvation. He is the provided, precious stone from God the Father. Isaiah 28:16 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner [stone], a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste. Christ meets the immediate need of the people and quenches their thirst. How much Christ desires to meet the needs of people? He does not quench physical thirst alone. He is thee Rock smitten by God the Father upon Calvary’s tree so that fountains of living water of salvation could be opened in the desert. Moses struck the rock multiple times when contending with the rebels. God dealt firmly with him for marring a picture of Christ. The Rock was smitten one time only for the provisions of Living Water.

Isaiah 55:1-2 Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Wherefore do ye spend money for [that which is] not bread? and your labour for [that which] satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye [that which is] good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.

John 4:10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

John 4:14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

John 7:37-38 37 In the last day, that great [day] of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. 38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

This Rock provides Strength. Isaiah 26:4 Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength: Strength is Rock or cliff. That Rock is Christ. There is no Rock like our God. How wonderful to have the refuge of Christ, this strong rock with God’s people at all times.

That Rock provides Satiating. In the same way today Our Rock is Christ. May we know His satiating this day. May we know His presence this day. Has He not said that He will never leave us nor forsake us? Can we not be joyful having our thirst quenched? How awfully sad that those who miss the Rock spend eternity crying out for one drop to cool their tongue. Believers forever will be satiated with Living Water from the Rock; that Rock is Christ.

Isaiah 41:17

[When] the poor and needy seek water, and [there is] none, [and] their tongue faileth for thirst, I the LORD will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them.

Isaiah 49:10

They shall not hunger nor thirst; neither shall the heat nor sun smite them: for he that hath mercy on them shall lead them, even by the springs of water shall he guide them.

Psalm 81:16

He should have fed them also with the finest of the wheat: and with honey out of the rock should I have satisfied thee.

That Rock provides Stability. That Rock, Jesus Christ, is the very Rock upon which the NT church is built. Jesus Christ is the only foundation, the chief cornerstone. He is the sure foundation of every Local NT church. He as well is the foundation for every believer to build their life upon. Matthew 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Those who lean upon by faith this Rock, Jesus Christ will never be confounded, ashamed, or disappointed. They will at last find that their feet are sure and stedfast upon the Rock when all of the storm of judgment comes. There is no Rock like our Rock; Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 2:6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

Christ, our Rock brings salvation, strength, satiating, and stability in His presence.
